Why it is important to start rehabilitation early

After a stroke, time plays a crucial role. The sooner a patient receives properly organized rehabilitation care, the greater the chances of gradually regaining lost functions and preventing complications.

Early rehabilitation helps to:

  • maintain joint mobility;
  • reduce the risk of contractures;
  • gradually restore muscle strength;
  • improve balance and coordination;

Where does choosing a rehabilitation program begin

Stroke rehabilitation usually requires the involvement of several specialists. This is important because a stroke can affect not only movement, but also speech, swallowing, memory, emotional well-being, and the ability to perform everyday activities independently.

Which specialists may be needed

Andrii’s rehabilitation program was developed gradually, taking into account his condition, endurance, and response to physical activity. A multidisciplinary team worked together to safely restore essential functions while making the most of the critical recovery period.

Physical therapist

Works on mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and walking ability. Helps the patient safely change body positions, stand up, move around, and gradually increase their level of physical activity.

Occupational therapist

Helps restore the skills needed for everyday life, including dressing, eating, personal hygiene, using household items, and adapting the environment to the patient’s abilities and needs.

Inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation

The format of rehabilitation depends on the patient’s condition. If a person requires daily care, medical supervision, and regular therapy sessions, inpatient rehabilitation may be recommended.

An inpatient program is often appropriate when the patient:

  • is unable to move independently;
  • requires assistance with daily activities;
  • has significant mobility impairments;

What to consider when choosing a rehabilitation center

When choosing a rehabilitation center, it is important to look beyond the cost or the availability of individual procedures. What truly matters is a comprehensive approach, the experience of the rehabilitation team, and the ability to tailor the program to the specific needs of each patient.
